About the artist

Born in Kyogle, New South Wales in 1954, Richard Rogers is known for iconic Australian imagery and the vibrancy of his painting style. His art education has been largely informal. During the 1980's he  learnt the technique of batik from South Australian artist Jeremy Keyte, which led to his first solo exhibition, held at the Underground Gallery in Coober Pedy in 1985. Dissatisfied with the colour fastness of the dyes he used, he switched to painting with more traditional mediums, watercolour, acrylics.and oils. He now paints primarily with acrylics.

Meeting and spending time with an aboriginal artist, John Evans,  inspired a desire to create an art style that is identifiably Australian, one that combines the rhythm, patterns and colour of indigenous art with Europeon art techniques.

Richard's last  exhibition sold completely and his work has been featured in the Artists Palette and Australian Artist magazines. His paintings are found in collections throughout Australia and overseas.

His work can be viewed by appointment at his studio in Strathalbyn, South Australia. Phone  (08) 85368180    Mobile 0401 318 898
